About

Lark Studio is the creative nest of composer and musician Joshua D. Peterson.

"For me, there's never been a time without music. Studying classical piano from the age of four, the vocabulary of everyday life included musical phrases, dynamics and ideas. The gift of playing turned into composing. I wrote my first piece at the age of 12.

Later on, the discovery of jazz music changed my outlook forever.  The wild yet intimate characteristic of the idiom felt like flying and captured my imagination.  As a tenor sax player, I began studying the other woodwinds and got the opportunity to study with tenor great, Matt Wallace of the Maynard Ferguson Big Band.

It was in high school that I first came across film scoring. Up to that point, I didn't even realize that it was a career.  I thought concert composers would just write for film in their spare time. I watched a short-lived television program called "On the Score" and it was that moment that I knew what I wanted to do.  With so much exposure to music for so long, in so many different styles, composing idiomatically for moving pictures came quite naturally."

After graduating from college with a degree in music composition, Lark Studio was created.  It has grown to be the creative space for original music, sound design, national commercial projects, and music production for other artists.

Joshua also teaches audio production at Oral Roberts University, his alma mater.  The idea of "giving back" is central to his philosophy, "Mentoring is essential for any artform. I don't believe in keeping secrets or re-inventing the wheel.  If you truly love an art form or the idea of art itself, this concept isn't difficult to understand."

Through all the hard work and endless hours of studying, writing, and dreaming, family is his priority. "In the end, it's all about them. My beautiful, supportive wife and adorable 6-month-old baby boy are what keeps the inspiration flowing and the candle burning."
